The Walker in the Landscape is a forthcoming 9 part phonographic folk composition and re-interpretation of Caitlin Kiely's project that uses personification to bring a landscape to life, exploring the dynamic between a walker and the life in which they walk on.
The script and talks with Caitlin inspired me to conduct sonic research into landscapes of extraction, recording and interacting with the material ecologies of different locations e.g. slate quarries in Wales, through field recording and improvisation.
These materials were used as the basis for a sound work, alongside abstracted folk textures that followed Caitlin's spoken word dialogue, seeking to transport the listener to the psycho-spatial entanglement unravelling between the pair.
The final project will be released to cassette format, sometime in 2024.
